Plymouth Rock is a deserving American shrine, but the legends - and the so-called pilgrims who came to them - are not as interesting as the facts.
Contrary to popular belief, the coast of North America in Spanish, French, Dutch and other well-known English colonists before the arrival of a reformist religious sect, which we had Thanksgiving with.
George Weymouth explored Maine in 1605 and brought five Indians to London. Three of them were handed overSir Ferdinando Gorges, the Harbor Master at Plymouth, England.
Contact with these beautiful and dignified Native Americans Gorges so fascinated that he encourage the rest of his life, colonization among them.
Mainly by enthusiasm Gorges, two colonies were founded in 1607 to life - in Jamestown, Virginia, the other at Sagadahoc, Maine. Jamestown survived, but there Sagadahoc one years later, when their leader, George Popham, died.
Fishing expeditions continue to New England,however. When the prey was scarce, Indians were often kidnapped and sold as slaves in Spain. One of them was named a brave Pawtuxit Tsquantum. He was to play a crucial role in the Pilgrims survive.

Pilgrims

"The next day was a fair, sun-brilliant day We. Were we tobe on an island, safe from the Indians, where we can dry our things resolve, and our pieces rest to us. This is the last day of the week, we have to keep the Sabbath.
"On Monday we sounded the harbor and found it fit for shipping. We marched into the land and found divers cornfields and little streams - a place where we should be, fit for the situation.

In addition to the landings on 21 November there were exploratory work landings on the 28th, 29th and 30.

First winter
Many pilgrims died the first terrible winter. The bodies were secretly buried to ensure that Indians do not recognize the emergency. Survivors need not worry. An unknown friend was halting the Indian nearest 40 miles away.
Tsquantum which was sold to Spanish slavery, he escapedhis way to Plymouth, England. There he was sure Sir canyons him back to America on a ship.
It was these Indians, called Squanto by the pilgrims who sat in the lodge and Wampanoak advised friendship with the colonists.
The pilgrims were alarmed in March, lined up as Squanto, Massasoit, and 60 warrior on a hill overlooking the colony. Imagine the surprise of the colonists, when Squanto welcomed her: "Welcome Englishmen!"
Edward Carver, Secretarythe colony went slowly to the environment, spread out his arms to which he carried no weapon.

Thus began a lasting friendship between the pilgrims and the Wampanoak. Squanto made frequent visits to the colony to the Pilgrims how to hunt, fish, plant corn with a herring for fertilizer to teach, to popcorn balls with maple syrup and play a dice game called Hubdub.
